Subject: me me me Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 18:29:27 -0400 From: Michael McGraw Reply-To: Siouxsie and the Banshees Discussion List To: Multiple recipients of list SATB-L My story: With all of this talk about "first times" with Siouxsie, it got me to thinking about my own "first time" and I was shocked...It was 1988 and I refuse to come to terms with the fact that I have been a SATB fanatic for nearly 10 whole years when I consider myself a relatively "new" fan...ugh... I think I was 14 or 15 years old. I was in the car with my parents on a rainy summer day--we were driving home from the Mall of all places... The radio was playing the usual non-descript tunes which were really so very non-descript by the late 80s, when suddenly the first beats of peek-a-boo shot out of the speakers and like the rest of us, I was hooked. It was so completely different from the guitar solo noise that was everywhere. The song had just hit the top 40 stations (which still surprises me) and I went right out and bought the tape...my next acquisitions were Once Upon a Time, the Scream, and Kaleidescope. For the past two years, I have worked for the animal rights group, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). I live in Norfolk, Va., but will be moving to Brooklyn, N.Y. in a couple of weeks...By the way, I've never seen this mentioned here, but Siouxsie donated "SKIN" to a PETA benefit album titled "Animal Liberation" in the mid-eighties. I think it was on Waxtrax and also included the Smiths and Nina Hagen among others. I may have an extra copy floating around if anyone's interested... Dead Can Dance, Morrissey, Patsy Cline, Death In June, The Carpenters, Glenn Miller, and Bjork are in my cd player when Siouxsie isn't...I also am madly in love with Sylvia Plath. I spent a semester in London a few years back, and in addition to tracking down a few great buys on Siouxsie vinyl, I will proudly admit to traveling far and wide to photograph every place I knew Sylvia had ever been... My cat Serena is the love of my life--I have a passion for Bewitched--Serena is named after Sammy's evil cousin... ta ta Michael
